After having axed three Marvel TV series, Netflix has confirmed to Deadline that The Punisher and Jessica Jones are also canceled. It marks the end of Netflix’s partnership with Disney’s Marvel.

Five Marvel TV shows
Netflix has now axed all four of its shows based on Marvel’s The Defenders Daredevil, Iron First, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones as well as The Punisher. The upcoming third season of Jessica Jones will be the last.

- “We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning,” Netflix said in a statement to Deadline.

Marvel’s TV Head Jeph Loeb published a statement after the news broke.

- “On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn't be more proud or more grateful to our audience. Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters... but you know Marvel better than that. As Matthew Murdock's Dad once said, 'The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it's how he gets back up. To be continued...!',"  said Jeph Loeb, Marvel, Marvel TV Head.



In preparation for Disney+
Disney is gearing up to launch its own streaming service. In preparation for the so-called Disney+, Netflix and Disney are in the process of cutting ties. Disney and Pixar movies will also disappear from Netflix in the near future.

Disney is planning its own shows based on Marvel characters such as Loki, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch. It may also decide to develop new content based on The Defenders universe but Variety reported last year that the deal with Netflix prevents the characters from appearing outside of Netflix for at least two years after cancellation.

The company will reveal a first look at Disney+ this April and the streaming service will launch later this year.
