Sony 2012 TV line-up
Sony’s new TVs will start appearing from March and in 2012 Sony simplifies their TV line-up. No more NX and LX models will be available and instead Sony focuses on the picture quality-focused HX range and the EX range with the most essential TV features. In 2012 Sony is expanding their X-Reality chip to more TVs and the HX850 will also incorporate the PRO version – like last year’s flagship TV. Sony is also expanding their MotionFlow system to more TVs and promises better 2D pictures and improved 3D pictures on all HX models that will now incorporate the same highspeed 3D panel that was developed for last year’s flagship HX9xx model.
Sony is expanding their Smart TV offerings and has a new look for the Bravia Internet Video platform. Sony now also offers apps and a new user interface. The Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services will be introduced in new markets and the Video Unlimited service is also coming to a range of European markets. Both are already available in the US.
Sony’s Google TV box (NSZ-GS7)
Sony is releasing two new Google TV boxes in 2012 and emphasizes a link system incorporated into their TVs. When the Google TV boxes are connected a new menu bar will appear in the Bravia Internet Xross menu bar. The Google TV products are also controllable via the TV remote – or vice versa. Sony’s Google TV boxes obviously also work on older Sony TVs and other brands’ TVs – just without the menu integration. A new app for Android and iOS devices also allows users to control the Google TV platform from their smartphones or tablets.
Sony highlights a few other features such as USB recording (only in Europe) and a WiFi Direct implementation that lets users push their music, videos and pictures to the TV screen from a handheld device. Most new Sony TVs also come with built-in WiFi and DLNA.
The HX850 model has a new Monolithic stand with built-in passive speakers that are powered by an internal amplifier in the TV - and in 2012 the stand is included in the box. All other TVs come with a two-cylinder stand with a swivel function.
New light-weight elegant 3D glasses have been developed to make the 3D viewing experience less awkward. Here’s a picture of the new 3D glasses.
