Sharp unveils 3D Quattron – 3DTVs before summer

Sharp has unveiled their new Quattron 3D LED LCD panels. The Quattron / Quad Pixel technology is the first one to utilize 4 sub pixel colors in RGBY (red, green, blue, yellow) and not 3 like conventional LCD panels. The LE920 will also be updated to a 3DTV.

Sharp has unveiled their first 3D panel ready for mass production and the new 3D panel is the first one to build on the Quattron technology.

Sharp has plans to introduce 3DTVs up to 60 inches and will be using the frame sequential 3D method like the other LCD manufacturers. This method requires active-shutter 3D glasses.

Sharp also claims that their 3D panels has a much higher brightness (required for 3D because the 3D glasses reduce brightness) as well as very low crosstalk to ensure impressive 3D pictures and moving pictures.

Sharp has told us that they’re planning on exhibiting the first actual Quattron 3DTV in May and Sharp will start selling the Quattron 3DTVs before “summer 2010”.


Sharp LE920 will be upgraded to 3D

We have also learned that the former LE920 will be delayed and it’s this model that will feature the 3D panels. LE920 was exhibited on CES 2010 as a non-3D-TV. LE920 will probably be renamed to LE925 after the official announcement.

Sharp already have new Quattron / Quad Pixel TVs planned. These are traditional 2D TVs and we have already received LE820.
