According to New York Times, Netflix has striked a deal with Dreamworks to bring movies and TV shows to Netflix’s online streaming customers.

Netflix started out as a post-order DVD rental company but they recently split up their DVD rental and internet streaming companies with DVD rental business now called Qwikstar.

The internet streaming business is now taking a huge step forward with a new deal with Dreamworks that bring TV shows and full-length movies to Netflix’s customers. HBO is currently the exclusive partner but that seems to have been a dissatisfying deal for Dreamworks – apparently. Netflix is not confined to selling digital copies of Dreamworks’ shows within a limited period, either.
According to New York Times, Dreamworks will start streaming movies through Netflix from 2013 with blockbusters such as Antz, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek and many more to debut on Netflix. No words on a timeline for Dreamworks’ TV shows.
Dreamworks CEO calls it a “game-changing deal”. It is also the first time a major Hollywood supplier has chosen an internet streaming deal over pay television. Netflix has yet to confirm the partnership with Dreamworks but rumors have swirled for some time so expect it to hold water.
Netflix also recently announced a deal to bring Discovery shows such as Man vs. Wild, Deadliest Catch and the rest of Discovery’s TV shows to Netflix’s internet streaming customers.
