LG has developed the world’s most energy-friendly LCD-TV. The 47-inch LCD-TV is utilizing a new one-sided Edge LED backlighting method, enabling it to run on 28 W when turned on.

Manufacturers are constantly striving to reduce power consumption on TVs and display panels. This naturally helps the environment but it also allow manufacturers to create new products and increase battery life on mobile devices as the LCD panel is one of the most power-hungry components.
LG develops most power-efficient 47-inch LCD-TV
LG says that they have set a new record as their 47-inch TV consumes just 28 W – even less than most 20-inch monitors today. LG also claims that they still achieve a fairly high brightness level from the 47-inch panel, which has a slim 8.5 mm bezel.
The low power consumption level is made possible by using one-sided Edge LED backlighting. Instead of incorporating LEDs on all sides or on top and bottom, LG has integrated LEDs on only one side of the LCD panel, thus lowering power consumption because fewer LED are lit. The light is distributed across the panel with a light diffuser.
LG has not announced plans to commercialize the LCD panel but we think it is safe to assume that we will see new LG TVs next year, with even lower power consumption than today’s models.
