Mitsubishi has decided to discontinue its last line of rear-projection TVs, after Samsung and Sony left the arena a few years prior. Rear-projection TVs are officially dead.

They had a good run and during the CRT and early flat panel TV days, rear projection TVs had a place in the market – but that time is long gone. Sony left the market in 2007 and Samsung followed in 2009.

Mitsubishi was the last major contestant but now throws in the towel, according to CEPro. Some might speculate why it has not happened earlier but Mitsubishi actually went all-in last year after discontinuing its LCD-TV line. At the same time Mitsubishi said it had high hopes for its 73, 82 and 92” DLP models. However, that strategy was short-lived, it seems.
