4K PC monitors are still very expensive. Today, almost every 4K monitor is based on Sharp’s 31.5” 4K panel, but starting in Q1 or Q2 of 2014 AU Optronics will start producing 4K LCD panels in 27 and 32 inch sizes. AUO’s panels are usually affordable.
27 & 32" 4K PC monitors coming soon
AUO’s panels are often found inside affordable BenQ, Philips, Asus, and even some Samsung monitors. That is why it is exciting to see AUO initiate production of 4K PC panels.
AUO will start producing four panels in 27 and 32 inch sizes. All four panels will feature a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. Two of each will be available, one with sRGB gamut and one with AdobeRGB gamut coverage. Both can reproduce 10-bit by using dithering.

The 4K LCD panels are based on AHVA technology with edge LED. AHVA is a type of IPS panel with wide viewing angles, accurate color reproduction, but relatively weak contrast. AUO says that the contrast ratio of all four panels is 1000:1.
AUO expects to start mass production during Q1 or Q2 2014, so expect to see cheaper 4K PC monitors around that time.
