LG will update 2014 TVs with webOS 2.0 features

05 May 2015 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG announced “webOS 2.0” in January, but said that it would only be available on the new 2015 TVs. There has been a lot of confusion about the decision, so LG has now changed its mind. An update is coming to the 2014 models later this year.

Update with webOS 2.0 features

LG says that the software update will optimize webOS on 2014 TVs, making the user interface more responsive. The update will also add “MyChannels” (currently available on the 2015 TVs), which is favorite list for TV channels, and the new settings menu.

- “We are currently working on an update for these models. The features will include MyChannels, and a user interface update with Quick Settings and Input Picker.” said Lorraine Bayram, Smart TV Specialist at LG to FlatpanelsHD.

LG left many webOS owners frustrated and confused after unveiling webOS 2.0 at CES in January. The company later said that “2.0” referred to the more powerful hardware in the new TVs instead of the software, and that all apps would continue to work on the 2014 TVs. And now LG has finally decided to release a software update.

The new software will be released later this year and will roll out globally as a free update to all owners.
