Netflix has increased the price of its HD plan by 10%. Existing users will continue to pay 8.99 Euro for one year but the higher price will be effective for new subscribers immediately.
To fund more Netflix originals
Netflix is currently offering three subscription plans (SD, HD & 4K), and the HD plan that was previously priced at 8.99 Euro has jumped to 9.99 Euro. Netflix’s SD plan will continue to cost 7.99 Euro and the 4K plan also remains unchanged at 11.99 Euro.
The price increase will affect European countries, including France, Germany, Netherlands, and Switzerland. Netflix increased prices in the Nordic countries some time ago.
Netflix explains that the price rise is necessary “to continue adding more TV shows and movies, including many Netflix original titles”. Netflix has released several successful original TV series in recent years such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, and Sense8. The company will soon release its first movies.
Netflix currently has over 65 million subscribers but it is not clear how many are located in Europe.
