LG's flat 4K HDR OLED TV, EF9500, is now shipping
LG’s EF9500 is perhaps one of the most interesting TVs of 2015. The flat OLED TV offers 4K resolution, support for HDR, webOS 2.0 and is available in 55 and 65” for the same prices as the curved variants.Same price as the curved OLEDs
LG’s HD OLED have been available for some time and the line-up was recently expanding with the first curved 4K OLED TVs. EF9500 (EF950V in Europe) is the first flat 4K OLED TV.
Besides 4K, the new flat OLED TV supports HDR (high dynamic range) for brighter highlights and deeper blacks with better shadow details. OLEDs cannot yet reach the same peak brightness levels as high-end LCD TVs but each pixel has the full range of brightness from zero black to 400 cd/m2 nits, making it better capable of reproducing HDR than LCDs, says LG.
The EF9500 also comes equipped with webOS 2.0; LG’s Smart TV platform with apps and casual games. webOS relies on a motion-enabled “Magic Remote” with a pointer on-screen. It is possible to stream 4K quality from Netflix, YouTube and Amazon. Furthermore, Amazon is now offering 4K HDR content on LG’s OLED TVs.
Ahead of the release, LG lowered its prices on the 55 and 65” EF9500 TVs. They are now available in the US and Europe for the same prices as the curved variants. Availability will be expanded to more retailers in the coming weeks and months.
