Most of Vizio’s 2016 models were already capable of playing Dolby Vision HDR content but the HDR10 format was not supported at launch. As promised, Vizio has now released a firmware update to enable HDR10 on its 2016 P and M series TVs.
HDR10 update for Vizio TVs
With the firmware update Vizio’s 2016 TVs now support HDR10. This means that owners can connect an UHD Blu-ray player to the TV and enjoy video in glorious 4K and HDR quality.
- “HDR10 firmware released for 2016 P Series & 2016 M Series displays. will roll out over the next week to users,” said Matthew McRae, CTO & Head of Marketing at Vizio.

To enjoy UHD Blu-ray in HDR on your Vizio TV make sure that you have “HDMI subsampling” turned on for the HDMI input that the player is connected to. Vizio also urges users to update their UHD Blu-ray players to the latest firmware to avoid compatibility issues.
Besides the HDR10 format, Vizio also supports Dolby’s premium HDR format, Dolby Vision, on most of its 2016 TVs.
The firmware update is rolling out to 2016 P series TVs and 2016 M series TVs now. However, it will take some days to reach all TVs, says Vizio.
