LG OLED again crowned 'King of TV' in 2017 TV Shootout

14 Jul 2017 | Rasmus Larsen |

This is the fourth consecutive year that LG OLED has won the TV Shootout. The LG E7 took home the win in all categories ahead of flagship TVs from Samsung, Sony, Vizio, and Westinghouse.

2017 King of TV

The annual TV Shootout, originally created by Robert Zohn, was held at the CE Week 2017 in New York, presented by ISF founder Joel Silver and calibration expert Kevin Miller. SpectraCal had calibrated the six TVs.

This year, a panel of professionals in the video industry voted in three distinct categories: Studio Lighting/Home Theater, HDR, and Streaming Performance. Each TV was rated based on criteria including perceived contrast ratio, color saturation and color volume, colorimetry, and motion artifacts, amongst others. The rankings have not been released to the public this year.

Six TVs were included in the Shootout:
  • LG 65” E7 OLED - $4,800
  • Sony 65” A1 OLED - $5,000
  • Sony 65” Z9D LCD - $5,500
  • Samsung 65” Q9 LCD - $4,000
  • Vizio 65” P series LCD - $1,700
  • Westinghouse 65” Fire TV LCD - $?

LG E7 won in all three categories, and was again crowned ‘King of TV’ in the Shootout. Sony A1 received honorable mention for coming close to LG E7, according to AVSForum who attended the event.
