Flatpanels Award – an award granted to TVs or monitors that perform extraordinarily. We use two kinds of awards, one being the Reference Award and the other being the Top-recommendation Award.
We do not use points or stars when reviewing because the industry is changing so quickly. Instead we have a text conclusion and these two awards. Below you find an explanation of the two awards and at the bottom you will find the monitors and TVs on has received the prestigous Award.
You can also find our list with recommendations here: TV and monitor recommendations
The name tells most of the story but to clarify we hand out this Award to a monitor or a TV that is simply the best in its category. Afterwards we use this as a reference when measuring on and evaluating other TVs.
Only one screen in each class (TV or monitor) can have this award but it can switch to a new screen the same year if this screen performs better.

We do not take price into consideration when using the Reference Award.
The Top-recommendation Award is given to a screen that has very good picture quality. Price is also a factor here. This award is not as respected as the Reference Award but is hard to obtain.

The Top-recommendation is true at the time of publication. When time passes on, newer screens are introduced that may be better, but have not received the Award. The Top-recommendation Award takes the market standard into consideration at the moment of publication - the screen needs to stand out.
The Top-recommendation Award is not unique. More than one screen can receive this Award but they have to perform extraordinarily well compared to the market standard.
Here are the TVs and monitors that has received awards.
