LG's Nano TVs to use Cinema 3D instead of active 3D

LG has big plans to push their Cinema 3D TVs with cheap polarized 3D glasses in 2011 and LG has now confirmed that their high-end Nano TVs will utilize Cinema 3D instead of active shutter 3D technology. The Nano TVs will be available from August 2011.

At the CES fair in Las Vegas in January 2011 LG announced Nano TVs with a very slim Nano film that enables full local dimming in thin TVs. At CES LG also said that all their two Nano TV ranges would implement active 3D shutter technology.

But since then LG has pushed their new Cinema 3D technology that utilizes the extremely cheap polarized 3D glasses that you know from movie cinemas, and now LG has decided also to implement Cinema 3D into their Nano TVs.

So if you are holding your breath for either LW7700 or LW9500 after the CES presentation you have to prepare yourself for change. Rumors suggest that the Nano models will also be renamed to LW7800 and LW9800 (or LW9600). Other features such as Nano local dimming, Smart TV and Wi-Fi are still included.

LG’s Cinema 3D technology utilizes cheap polarized 3D glasses. Because the glasses are passive you will see no flicker, which also make the glasses much easier on the eyes.
