It is time you upgrade your dumb TV to Smart TV and Philips is here to help you. The new HMP5000 is a small Media Player with network and Internet functionality that is simply connected to the TV via HDMI.

With DLNA you can stream video, music and pictures from other devices in your home to HMP5000 and then onto your TV screen. Philips mentions a range of supported video formats such as: DivX Plus, mpeg, avi, ISO, Vob, M4V and MKV.

The small media player also plays content from USB devices such as USB sticks and USB hard drives, as well as SD cards via the integrated SD card reader.

Even though Philips has integrated YouTube-access the box offers no other Internet Apps / feature, which might prove to be a deal breaker for some users. But if you just want a network media streamer, HMP5000 might be the right solution for you.

Philips HMP5000 will be available from September and carries a 129.99 Euro price tag.
