Roku has announced a firmware update for all of its streaming boxes, including the low-end models. The update will add MKV playback, iOS remote App (Android later), and a range of tweaks.

Roku has released software version 4.2, build 1006 that adds new functionality and improves the performance of the Roku streaming boxes.

The two most significant updates are MKV playback support through USB and an iOS remote App, which will appear in the App Store soon. An Android App is coming later on. Roku also mentions improved Wi-Fi, audio, Bluetooth battery and mpeg4 performance.
