LG's OLED TV drops below $4000 for the first time

09 Jun 2014 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG’s amazing OLED TV was introduced with a steep $15,000 price tag, but over the past year it has dropped steadily in price. The OLED TV is now available for less than $4000, which is the lowest price yet. LG continues to lead in the nascent OLED market.

OLED TVs finally affordable

It is not exactly cheap, but with a $3999 price tag it is at least affordable. LG’s OLED TV is our reference TV at the moment and the 55-inch curved variant is now selling for just $3,999.

OLED is a new display technology with perfect black, incredible color reproduction, extremely fast response time, and near-perfect viewing angles. OLED displays can also become incredibly thin, but TV makers have struggled with bringing down production costs.

LG is leading the OLED market ahead of Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony; all of which have delayed plans to roll out OLED TVs. LG is using a different OLED pixel layout, which has made it possible to mass-produce OLED TVs.

LG’s curved OLED TV is available on Amazon for $3,999. LG’s new, massive OLED plant will be ready for mass production in the second half of 2014. LG will also launch 4K OLED TVs later this year.
