Vizio's 120" Reference TV is now shipping for $130,000

After almost two years, Vizio has finally released its Reference series of TVs. Vizio is offering 65 and 120” options for $6,000 and $130,000, respectively. These are the first TVs to claim Dolby Vision support.

Comes in two sizes

Vizio’s Reference TVs are packed with display technology. The LCD TVs come with Ultra HD resolution as well as support for HDR (high dynamic range) and HFR (high frame rate).

The TVs furthermore implement full-array local dimming with 384 zones to reach a peak brightness of 800 nits. Dolby had originally envisioned a far higher peak brightness level but it seems that Vizio/Dolby settled for less for the first consumer product. 800 nits peak brightness is comparable to some other high-end HDR-capable TVs from Samsung and Sony.

Vizio says that the TV can also reproduce a wide color gamut, without specifying it, by utilizing quantum dot technology (only in 65”). Vizio originally claimed that the TV could approach the impressive Rec.2020 gamut, but Vizio has since removed those claims from its site. Another feature is the ability to receive and reproduce 120fps content.

There are a few HDR movies available now from Vudu, including The Lego Movie, Edge of Tomorrow, Man of Steel, Live Die Repeat, and Mad Max. More will be available in HDR from Netflix once the company starts streaming in HDR in early 2016. UHD Blu-ray players can also support Dolby Vision but it is not mandatory.

There is a 5.1 surround system for the 65-inch TV. The 120-inch version has no surround speakers built-in.

You can order the 65 and 120” TVs on Vizio.com for $6,000 and $130,000, respectively. The 65” will also be available in other stores.
