TCL’s new TVs are the first Roku TVs – TVs with Roku’s operating system built-in – to feature Dolby Vision HDR. Two model ranges will be available, including the P series with local dimming zones.
Affordable Dolby Vision TVs
The TVs were first unveiled at CES 2017 and will be available for pre-order in the US this month. TCL will launch new P-series and C-series, with the P-series being the most interesting.
TCL’s P-series will be available in 50, 55, and 65” sizes with 72 local dimming zones and a “photon” technology that can expand the color gamut to “nearly all the DCI-P3 color standard”. This will enable it to deliver faithful HDR pictures, including both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, unlike many of the edge-lit LCDs on the market today.

TCL’s C-series does not use local dimming zones as the company has chosen to instead focus on a “slim, elegant design”. In other words edge LED. The C-series also supports 4K resolution, Dolby Vision and wide color gamut but despite being more expensive, the HDR experience may not be as good as on the P-series.
Both TVs obviously come with the RokuOS built-in. The Roku platform offers more than 5000 apps and “50,000+ movies and TV episodes”. You have access to Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, HBO, and many others.
TCL’s P-series will be available in 50” (50P607), 55” (55P607), and 65” (65P607) sizes. The 55” will be available for $599 via pre-order on amazon.com starting May 26th. The C-series will be available in 55” (55C807), 65” (65C807) and 75” (75C807) for $699, $1099, and $1999.
