You can now ”operate the complete Loewe home entertainment system”, including your Loewe TV, with Amazon Alexa, the company announced at IFA 2017.
Alexa controls your TV
Voice assistants are coming to TVs in a big way and while they are somewhat limited today, they hold potential to do a lot more. Loewe has chosen to partner with Amazon to bring the Alexa voice command system to its TVs.
- “You can operate the complete Loewe home entertainment system with the Amazon Alexa app – play music, videos, online searches, switch on and off or pair with other devices. It is even possible to control multiple TV sets”, the company said at IFA in Berlin.
Loewe added that you can use commands such as “Alexa, say Loewe switch on” or “Alexa, say Loewe sound off”. It is not yet possible to use Alexa for universal search across multiple streaming services on Loewe TVs.
To get started you need an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot device or simply use the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone. There is a new Amazon Alexa logo on the Loewe home screen that you can click to install it.
Voice assistants are also starting to appear in other TVs. Amazon has enabled Alexa on its own line of FireTV devices. Sony has also partnered with Amazon to bring Alexa to its Android TVs – even before Google Assistant has arrived. Philips will enable Google Assistant on its Android TVs later this year and Google has enabled its Home speaker to control Chromecast. The Apple TV has Siri built-in and the company will this December launch the Siri-enabled HomePod, which is expected to tie in with Apple TV.
