HBO has confirmed that its ad-supported tier will cost $5/month less than the premium tier, $9.99 instead of $14.99. It will not include access to premiere movies.
HBO Max with ads
HBO Max's ad-supported tier will provide the "lightest ad load among ad-supported streamers", the company said referring to competing services like Peacock (which is free with ads).
- "HBO Max announced at today’s 2021 WarnerMedia Upfront that it will debut its ad-supported subscription tier the first week of June, providing consumers choice between the existing ad-free version of HBO Max at $14.99 per month, or an ad-supported experience for $9.99 per month."
However, subscribers to the ad-supported tier of HBO Max will not have access to same-day premiere movies like Dune and The Matrix 4. These will be exclusive to the higher-priced tier.
The company did not confirm if the ad-supported tier will support 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos.
In addition, HBO Max will launch without ads in 39 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean in late June, and in Europe (Nordics, Spain, Central Europe, and Portugal) later this year.
