Sony has reportedly revealed new details about its PS5 virtual reality headset at a developer conference, including HDR support on an OLED display, 2000x2040 resolution per eye, and more.

Sony has confirmed that it is developing a next-gen VR headset for PS5 and at a developer conference it shared more technical details, according to reports by PSVR Without Parole and UploadVR.

The headset will reportedly feature an OLED display with 2000x2040 pixels per eye (4000x2040 total, or 4K) and for the first time HDR support for an expanded range of brightness and color. It will apparently have fresnel lenses and a 110-degree field of view – 10 degrees more than the current PS VR.

In order to optimize VR game performance Sony will use a combination of foveated rendering and flexible scaling to render more pixels in the visible area and to scale resolution dynamically. The 'PS VR 2' headset will use eye-tracking to support this.

AAA games for VR
The initial report also claimed that there will be haptics in the headset as well capacitive touch sensors in the controllers that can "detect how far from the sensors your fingers are".

Sony will focus on AAA games that work on both TVs and 'PS VR 2' along with remasters of current PS VR games.

As for the actual headset it was not shown during the developer conference.

Sony has confirmed that the new VR system will not launch this year. The company has already revealed the design of its next-gen VR controller.
