You can now jump straight into games on Xbox Game Pass from your Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One console. Cloud gaming also lets you play a few next-gen games on Xbox One.

Game streaming, or cloud gaming, is now supported on Xbox consoles in 25 regions including Australia, Europe, and North America as well as parts of the Middle East and Asia.

- "Today you can play Game Pass games from the cloud on your Xbox console. We’re excited that Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. We are launching in 25 regions with Brazil coming soon. This capability will initially roll out with our November release to a subset of Xbox gamers and scale to all gamers in supported markets over the coming weeks," announced Microsoft.

The new feature was first revealed in August and is rolling out now with Xbox's November system update. To get started you must subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Then just click 'play' to start the game instantly. More than 100 games support streaming, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft emphasized that download "is still the flagship experience for Xbox consoles". You must download games to play in up to 4K, HDR, 120fps and Dolby Atmos, and with the lowest level of input lag. Xbox Cloud Gaming is limited to 1080p at 60fps and SDR.

Next-gen on last-gen
The new system brings with it some new capabilities, specifically the option to play a handful of next-gen games on Xbox One. Games that were previously available only on Xbox Series X/S.

- "For Xbox One users, cloud gaming also allows you to play some next gen games on the Xbox One console you already own. This means select games that are currently only playable on Xbox Series X|S, like Recompile, The Medium, and The Riftbreaker, are now playable on your Xbox One with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and cloud gaming," said Microsoft.

And more games will be added over time.

- "We will also continue to support this capability and expand our cloud game library to include more next gen games like Microsoft Flight Simulator in early 2022."

This is the latest step in Xbox's efforts to reach "more than a billion devices". Xbox game streaming is already supported on PC and mobile devices, and will come to Smart TVs later.
