Philips unveils its first OLED monitor

02 May 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

The 27-inch Philips Momentum 27E1N8900 features an OLED panel with 4K resolution and is aimed at professional users working with graphics, photos and video.

OLED technology is starting to make inroads into the monitor segment, albeit slowly. Philips has not revealed its supplier but it is most likely Japan OLED, which is also supplying LG Electronics with RGB OLED monitor panels whereas Samsung Display is supplying Samsung Electronics and Dell Alienware with QD-OLED.

The 27-inch Philips Momentum 8000 series 27E1N8900 features 3840x2160 pixels, 1 ms (time to rise + time to fall, or black-white-black) response time, 1,000,000:1 native contrast ratio, very wide viewing angles as well as 250 nits fullscreen and 540 nits peak white. It covers 99.7% of DCI-P3, 99.6% of AdobeRGB and the full sRGB gamut with <1 Delta E pre-calibration.

The monitor is aimed at professional users working in photo, video, graphic and similar fields. While the OLED panel has lower response time than any LCD monitor on the market today, it is limited to 60Hz refresh so it is not ideal as a gaming solution. It comes with 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and multiple USB ports. Philips' OLED monitor has been confirmed for North America and Asia for around 7000 Yuan (approx. 1100 USD), according to TFTCentral. We are chasing more information on a European release.
