Apple has confirmed that AirPlay will make it into hotels TVs later this year and LG, the leading provider of in-room hotel TVs, will be the first partner.

Apple announced the plans earlier this month at WWDC 23 and LG is making its announcement ahead of next week's HITEC hospitality technology trade show.

"Hotels that offer this feature will have an immediate leg up with travelers who use Apple devices, boosting guest satisfaction while providing real differentiation from local competition."


AirPlay for video, music, more
AirPlay in a hotel TV will allow guests to push video, music, pictures and other types of media content from their iPhone and iPad onto the hotel TV wirelessly and securely – no content will be stored on the actual TV.

It will also allow guests to use their own streaming services in hotels, except from Netflix that has disabled AirPlay functionality.

Guests can connect their iPhone or iPad by scanning a QR code on-screen. No login, password or special app is required, explained LG.

LG is the first AirPlay hotel partner and the company claimed that it is the leading provider of in-room hotel TVs. AirPlay "will be available on 2023 LG smart hotel TVs and on recent year's models" via an update.

Apple said that AirPlay will be available in select hotels before the end of the year. No specific hotels or hotel brands were announced.
