Philips Hue gains deeper integration with Samsung TVs

27 Mar 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

After adding support for Philips Hue mood lighting on Samsung TVs last year, the two companies are expanding integration to include a Music mode, SmartThings support, and a subscription plan.

Philips Hue integration with Samsung TVs is a rival to Philips' proprietary Ambilight system, although less advanced and customizable than Ambilight.

Starting in "spring 2024", Samsung is expanding functionality. At the same time, the feature is expanding to Brazil, Hong Kong, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

- "We are thrilled to expand our partnership with SmartThings to empower users with greater control over their entertainment experiences," said Jasper Vervoort, Business Leader Philips Hue at Signify. "The integration of Philips Hue Sync TV App into the SmartThings ecosystem allows users to create immersive multi-device entertainment routines, enhancing their smart home experiences like never before."

The new features

The Philips Hue Sync TV app is compatible with 2022 and newer Samsung TVs from Q60 and up. To get started you must download the Philips Hue Sync TV app on your Samsung TV.

The new features for Philips Hue for Samsung TVs are:
  • Music mode: The new music mode is compatible with music from any app or source. There are also video and game modes available.
  • SmartThings integration: In addition to the Philips Hue Sync mobile app, you can soon use Samsung's SmartThings app to control the Hue lights and add automations.
  • Subscription plan: In addition to a one-time fee of 129.99 USD/EUR, a monthly subscription plan (2.99 USD/EUR) is introduced for up to three Samsung TVs. It works with anything you watch or play on the TV, and it supports all video formats including 8K, 4K and HDR10+, according to Samsung.
