TP Vision has launched its 2019 generation of Philips LCD TVs in Europe. Most are equipped with Ambilight and there are lots of Android TVs but the more affordable models now use the company's own Saphi platform.

TP Vision is rolling out its new Philips LCD TVs for 2019 in Europe. The LCD models are available in sizes ranging from 24 to 75 inches. Later this year, the company will add new OLED models to its line-up.

As usual, one of the main themes is Ambilight, which is available from the PUS6704 series and up. The ambient mood lighting system adapts dynamically to on-screen colors but can also be configured to function as bias lighting. In addition, Ambilight has a game mode and can integrate with Philips Hue light bulbs.

For its most exclusive LCD model (PUS9104) Philips has partnered with Georg Jensen while the PUS8004 series is equipped with Bowers & Wilkins soundbar.



The company is also bringing Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to almost its entire line-up of TVs this year. Like Panasonic, Philips was one of the first brands to offer HDR10+ support and this year the TVs will offer support for both premium HDR formats. That leaves Samsung as the only major brand with both feet in the HDR10+ camp.

Whether these displays are actually equipped to deliver HDR is another matter. None of the LCD models employ full array local dimming. The new Philips OLED TVs that will be available later this year will also support both premium HDR formats.

As part of its line-up for 2019, Philips is launching "The One", which is a mainstram model that comes with all of the essential features, according to the company.



Fewer Android TVs
Roughly half of the new models come with Google's Android TV platform that offers access to apps and games as well as built-in Chromecast. However, from the 6 series and down Philips is phasing in its own Saphi platform with access to apps such as Amazon and Netflix.

Is the company losing faith in Google or just trying to apply a little pressure? We do not know but it is clear that the line-up of Android TVs is less expansive than just a few years ago where it extended all the way into the Full HD series.



The new LCD TVs have 4K resolution and HDMI 2.0. From the 7 series and up you also get Philips' P5 video processor. The company is not yet ready to embrace HDMI 2.1 and has yet to announce plans for 8K TVs.
