Toshiba has unveiled their 2011 TVs and the mid-end and high-end models will feature automatic calibration to ensure very accurate colors.
Auto calibration on Toshiba TVs
Toshiba’s CEVO TVs not only come with 512 local dimming zones; they also support 100 % automatic calibration.
With a calibration hardware probe and the built-in calibration system Toshiba wants to provide consumers with extremely accurate colors and impressive picture quality. We had a chance to see it in Rome and let us try to take a look at the system in action. Below you see how it’s done in practice.
Toshiba auto calibration
The probe on the screen to the left measures color accuracy based on test color tones and the TV afterwards prepares the necessary corrections to ensure accurate color reproduction.
The system is 100 % automated and you only need to press start on the remote control. You do not need any prior experience with calibration on flat panel TVs. You can do it right out of the box or you can wait until later. Toshiba’s TV also comes with some test patterns like the one to the right, which enables users to see the calibrated result compared to the out-of-box result.
Auto calibration is supported on Toshiba ZL1, WL863, YL863, VL863 and UL863. We will take an in-depth look at the system when we receive the TVs for testing. Learn more about Toshiba’s 2011 TV line-up here.
