Toshiba’s 2011 TVs in outline

We have just returned from Toshiba World 2011 and Rome where Toshiba unveiled their new 2011 products and their new 2011 flat panel TV line-up.

Toshiba plans to step up their presence in the TV market with some interested TVs featuring a CEVO engine, Smart TV, passive 3D, personal TV and much more. You can expect new TVs ranging from low-end to extremely high-end from Toshiba

The new flagship model is called ZL1 and it will incorporate Toshiba’s CEVO engine, which is an extremely powerful processor that takes care of picture quality optimization. CEVO also enables LED local dimming on ZL1 in 512 zones to ensure extremely deep blacks with very few compromises.

A new Smart TV platform has been developed called Toshiba Places. From here you have access to different video on demand services, YouTube, social media, games, an App Store and more.

They also introduced a so-called Personal TV interface, which basically means that a small camera in the TV recognizes your face and personalizes your channel list, settings and more.

LG, Vizio and Philips recently announced passive 3D TVs with the much cheaper polarized 3D glasses that you know from cinemas and Toshiba joins the choir with its introduction of passive 3D TVs under the name “Smart 3D”. But as most other manufacturers Toshiba also plans to release 3D TVs with active 3D shutter glasses, including the flagship CEVO models. See the new active 3D glasses below.

A design partnership with Danish Jacob Jensen Design was announced in 2010 and this cooperation continues in 2011. Most new Toshiba TVs will come with Jacob Jensen’s minimalistic design philosophy and the choice of top quality materials.

The last thing we want to highlight before we move on to the new TV ranges is Toshiba’s new automatic calibration. The high-end and mid-end models will come with integrated automatic calibration. You just need a hardware calibrator and you are set to go. You don’t need any experience in the calibration field because everything is 100 % automated. You just place the sensor in front of the screen and the TV will run the required test patterns.
