Sony 2011 TV line-up - with prices
Sony has unveiled their 2011 TV line-up in Copenhagen, and we’re excited. You can look forward to new functionality such as USB recording as well as better picture quality with 800 Hz and LED local dimming. Sony has also announced a range of models with the beautiful Monolithic design.

At a huge press press conference in Copenhagen Sony unveiled their 2011 line-up including their new flat panel TVs. Sony has some very interesting models lined up this year and some will be available within a few months from now.

In 2011 Sony has focused on picture quality, 3D, Internet and media functionality, such as USB Recording, Skype and a built-in web browser.
Sony has based most of the 2011 line-up on the structure that was introduced in 2010. Sony keeps focusing on the beautiful Monolithic design with the gray metal stand. Most models also come with thinner cabinets and slimmer bezels.
A new feature is the USB recording function. Basically it allows users to connect either a USB HDD or a USB stick and record onto one of these devices. You can also set up timers with the TV guide.

Sony continues to focus on Internet enabled TVs in 2011 and most of the mid-end and high-end models also has web browsers with limited support (no flash for example). Sony has also jumped on the Skype bandwagon which is pretty self-explanatory, and plans to roll out their Qriocity video on demand service to more European countries in 2011.

And 3D. Yes, no big surprise. As Sony continues to promote 3D on the PlayStation 3 and Bravia TVs, 3D continues to be a major focus area for Sony. Even more Sony ranges come with 3D capability in 2011 including one of the TVs from the cheaper Essential range.
Sony also says that they have some cool 3D games coming out in 2011 for the PS3 and new movies such as Men in Black 3, TinTin, Spiderman, Green Hornet and The Smurfs.

The new X-Reality PRO Engine is a two-chip digital video processor that optimizes high definition content, compressed HD signals, standard definition, and other sources including low resolution Internet content. Some of the cheaper models come with a lesser X-Reality Engine.

The best picture quality is found in the Cinematic range - called HX. You can expect three HX models called HX920, HX820 and HX720, respectively. The Signature range – the one called LX – will be discontinued in 2011
In addition, Sony has announces a new model in the Presence range – the ones with NX – with focus on design. Lastly, Sony will be released a number of new TVs in the Essential range - called EX – with focus on the most essential features for average users. Sony’s cheapest 3D model called EX720 is also part of the Essential range in 2011.

The Cinematic range has excellent picture quality and features such as 800 Hz, LED with local dimming and 3D. If you don’t want a compromise and want the best from Sony, the Cinematic range is the place to look.Cinematic HX920
Sony HX920 is the new flagship model with 800 Hz and LED with local dimming that improves contrast ratio and boosts black levels.

Cinematic HX820
HX820 is the step down with MotionFlow 400 instead of 800. HX820 still has the new X-Reality Pro Engine and 3D but only Edge LED.

Cinematic HX720
The Cinematic HX720 model does not have the Monolithic design but instead a so-called Deep Black panel with coating on the outer glass front. (but not between the panel and the glass). It has Edge LED and 3D.

Presence range
In the Presence range Sony has focused on elegant design and network/Internet functionality. These are the so-called NX models.Presence NX720
The only model in the Presence range is the NX720 that replaces both NX710 and NX810. The TV comes with the Monolithic design and Gorilla glass that is extremely though. It also has Edge LED and 3D.

Sony NX720 will be available from March/April 2011 in 40, 46, 55 and 60 inches called 40NX720, 46NX720, 55NX720 and 60NX720. For pricing see the table further down.

Essential range
In the essential range you will find TVs with focus on the most essential features today. This means fairly good picture quality, Internet and media functionality. The EX720 also has 3D but none of the Essential range models have the most advanced picture systems found in the Cinematic TVs.Essential EX720
Essential EX720 is the most expensive model in the EX range and comes with 3D and Edge LED.

Sony EX720 will be available from March 2011 in 32, 37, 40, 46 and 55 inches called 32EX720, 37EX720, 40EX720, 46EX720 and 55EX720. For pricing see the table further down.

EX520 is the step down without 3D but with Bravia Internet.

In the Essential range Sony has also announced CX models without LED, such as the CX520.

Most new models come with web browser but the Bravia Internet interface is the same. Google TV has not been planned for European release so far – and not in 2011. Qriocity should be available in most European countries later this year.

400 Hz + scanning backlight.
When can we expect a more luxurious remote control from Sony? - Thomas
No plans at the moment but you can use your iPhone/iPod and Android devices on the new Sony 2011 TVs.

No plans at the moment. The slimmest TV is measuring 3 cm but then you also get true backlit LED.

Ja on most models but you need to connect your TV to the home network.

Up to 2 TV. Sony recommends Western Digital.

No, one at a time but the TV can remember up to 8.

Qriocity will be available in most European countries this year.
Is there some Glossy/antiglare option? - idont
The OptiContrast panel has an antiglare coating on the glass front and an antiglare coating between the panel and the glass front.
The DeepBlack panel only has antiglare coating on the front of the glass.
Can you ask how the connections are positioned? I really would like to hang the Tv on a wall, but the positioning is important. - Martin
Most inputs are pointing out towards the wall.
Will there be a PVR function in the European models? - Martin
Yes, in most models.
Does the HX929 include the 3D Glasses and is the 3D transmitter build in or are both sold separately like it is with the HX900. - Trigger
2 pairs in Europa. Sony had to check about the US market.

Depends a lot on the systems that are activated. The MotionFlow system adds some input lag.
