Panasonic 2024 TV line-up (with TV compare tool)

27 Jun 2024 | Flatpanels |

Panasonic is shifting gears by changing its model structure and abandoning its own TV operating system in favor of FireTV in most of its models, including the OLED TVs. Additionally, there will be a few models with Google TV and TiVo OS. Here is Panasonic's 2024 TV line-up. Panasonic is also returning to the US in 2024!

We have redesigned our TV line-up overview to include more data and technical information (under TV models click on to expand the view). We are also introducing an interactive TV compare tool (use to add TVs to compare tool). It's all powered by the TV Database.
2024 marks a fresh start for Japan's Panasonic, as evidenced by all model names ending with the letter 'A'. OLED TVs are now identified by the starting letter 'Z', while LCD TVs are identified by the starting letter 'W'. For example, Z95A is a 2024 OLED.

Panasonic will launch a total of five OLED TV ranges in 2024. Starting from the top, the flagship Z95A – which succeeds last year's MZ2000 – features the brighter second-generation MLA OLED panel. Z93A is a 77-inch version without the MLA OLED and is also Panasonic's largest OLED TV in 2024, as there is no 83-inch version. The three more affordable OLED ranges, Z90A, Z85A and Z80A, all use the standard WOLED panel from LG Display, powered by Panasonic's HCX processor. They will be available in sizes ranging from 42 to 65 inches. This year, the Z90A features a built-in soundbar all the way down to 42 inches. However, only the 55 and 65-inch Z90A models have the additional subwoofer. It is possible to connect a conventional external subwoofer to many of the high-end models via the TV's jack port. The switch to Fire TV is surprising, given that Panasonic has been testing Google TV in a few select models for some years now. The company explained that the decision to partner with Amazon is rooted in Amazon's willingness to expand the Fire TV user interface template to include some of Panasonic's traditional TV features, including advanced tuner functionality and the classic TV guide. Buyers also get a classic Panasonic remote control instead of Amazon's template remote.

One could speculate that the partnership with Amazon is also an opportunity to get Panasonic back into stores in North America, after Panasonic abandoned the market with the exit from plasma TVs. However, for now, Panasonic has only announced the 2024 line-up for Europe and a few other regions. All five OLED ranges switch to Fire TV but otherwise remain 'classic' Panasonic OLED TVs with 4K resolution, multi-HDR support (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision), and two HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K120, VRR and ALLM. A new feature this year is that the Z95A, Z93A and Z90A also support 144Hz for PC gaming. In addition, Panasonic has switched to a new chipset to enable Dolby Vision at up to 120 or 144Hz, depending on the model. Z95A and Z93A once again have the Dolby Atmos speaker system by Technics built in. It is not possible to get MLA OLED from Panasonic without these speakers – at least not in 2024.

Another new feature in the Fire TV models this year is built-in Apple AirPlay, allowing you to wirelessly push content to the TV from an iPhone, iPad or Mac, in addition to Apple Home (HomeKit). There is no support for Google Cast (Chromecast) except for Panasonic's single Google TV model. Stepping down to the 'W' LCD ranges, W95A is a miniLED LCD TV with zone dimming, while the W90A is a non-miniLED LCD model with fewer dimming zones. They also run Fire TV and are equipped with upgraded 4K LCD panels that support up to 144Hz. Panasonic did not specify how many dimming zones are in W95A other than confirming "hundreds" to FlatpanelsHD. W80A is an LCD TV running Fire TV and does not feature any type of LED local dimming.

Stepping further down, you have W70A with Google TV, W60A (W68A), S45A and S40A with TiVo, and S55A and S50A with Fire TV. The S-series models are entry-level HD LCD TVs and are not included in our overview. At this point, most people are probably somewhat familiar with Google TV – otherwise, check FlatpanelsHD's TV reviews – but TiVo is a newcomer. Here is what to expect from a Panasonic TiVo Smart TV:

In addition, you get all of Panasonic's other TV features including the Penta Tuner with DVB-C, S2, and T2 plus TV>IP, a subwoofer connection, the True Game Mode, pre-calibrated picture modes, Calman Ready, FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility, HDMI 2.1 eARC, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and more.

The 2024 Panasonic TVs will be available in Europe starting "this summer". Pricing details have yet to be announced but will be added to the overview automatically as soon as we know more. Once the TVs become available, model names and sizes will become active and clickable links to price comparisons or retailers. As explained at the beginning, Panasonic's model structure is completely different in 2024. The starting letter 'Z' denotes OLED and 'W' denotes LCD, while 'A' indicates that it is a 2024 model. As a reminder: Z**A, W**A and S**A = 2024, M = 2023, L = 2022, J = 2021, H = 2020, G = 2019, F = 2018, E = 2017, D = 2016, C = 2015, A = 2014. Panasonic skipped 'B', 'I' and 'K'.
