JVC has announced a very interesting LCD-TV at this year’s CES. It’s a 32-inch LCD-TV that is just 7 mm thick and weights just 5 kg.

JVC 5 kg LCD-TV
The 7 mm thin JVC LCD-TV is exhibited at CES 2009 and it’s one of the thinnest LCD-TVs out there. The secret is a LED backlight. The LED backlight makes the thin profile possible as well as reducing the overall weight of the TV to just 5 kg.
The LED backlight replaces the conventional CCFL backlight. CCFL backlight is more bulky and less luminance effective.

Even though the LCD-TV is just 7 mm thick JVC has managed to fit a Full HD panel into the frame. JVC has not commented on the curious twist stand and we don’t know if it will be part of the final product.
JVC also says that the prototype is the greenest TV on CES 2009. JVC has reduced mercury in the materials and managed to lower the power consumption.

JVC believes that the TV is perfect for wall of ceiling installations due to the very thin profile and the light frame.
