Panasonic has developed new thin-profile display panel technologies for both Plasma (PDPs) and LCD HDTVs. The prototypes are featured at the CES 2009 and are called NeoPDP and NeoLCD. The NeoPDP has a depth of only 8.8 mm (1/3 inches) and the NeoLCD has the lowest power consumptions of all LCD-TVs.
NeoPDP
Panasonic has two NeoPDP prototypes to exhibit at CES 2009. They have gone on to show even more impressive NeoPDP displays than those we saw on IFA 2008 in Berlin back in September.
Panasonic NeoPDP 50”
The first NeoPDP prototype is a 42-inch plasma panel. Panasonic has archived to triple the luminance efficiency of the panel. It’s done by reducing the power consumption to 1/3 of the 2007 models yet achieving the same brightness.

The second is an ultra-thin 50-inch plasma panel, just 8.8 mm (approximately 1/3 inch) in profile. This ultra-thin panel also has a moving picture resolution of 1080 lines.
NeoLCD
Panasonic also exhibits a prototype of a 37-inch LCD-TV panel.
It has the lowest energy consumption of any LCD-TV in the world, cutting the energy requirement almost in half compared to the previous model.
It has been archived by using a LED backlight and a local dimming system that adjusts the brightness from the backlight in different zones on the panel. Panasonic also managed to improve the picture quality and promises a moving picture resolution of 1000 lines – far higher than previous Viera LCD-TVs.
