Sony has previously been very optimistic about the development of large OLED TVs, and with the XEL-1, which we will review soon they prepared for even bigger OLED-TVs. It now appears that Sony is reluctant to develop large OLED-TVs and has postponed to project.
Just like Samsung recently announced that they will wait another 5 years to release large OLED-TVs, it seems that Sony sits on the fence as well. Initially – they say – that one has to focus on OLED panels in mobile devices and then take the step to larger panels - like the manufacturers did with the LCD technology back then.

Sony XEL-1 OLED
Darren Ambridge from Sony says:
- "We're more focused on big-screen technology at the moment. We really made the XEL-1 just to prove that we could make it." I>
The same Darren Ambridge guaranteed us that we will see some impressive OLED panels soon, though,
- "OLED is certainly still important and you will see some stunning OLED screens in our upcoming Walkman NWZ-x1000 series of media players." I>

Sony XEL-1 OLED
Sony does seem to send mixed signals about the future of OLED. Rumour has it that Sony might exhibit larger OLED-TVs at IFA 2009 in September 2009. People speculate that Sony will present the successor to the XEL-1 called the XEL-2.
More news on the XEL-2 soon.
