We wrote about Samsungs new B9000 series with wireless media box and LEDs with local dimming some time ago. Now rumour has is that Samsung will debut a B8500 series as well. Samsung will reveal it for the first time on the IFA 2009 fair in Berlin, September 2009.
Upcoming reviews: Samsung B8000, LG 50PS8000, Philips Cinema 21:9, Dell 2209WA and Sony OLED-TV XEL-1
Samsung has recently released the B8000 series with Edge LED and a slim design. The coming B8500 is believed to feature LEDs with local dimming, and fill the gap between the B8000 series with Edge LED and the future B9000 series with local dimming LED and a wireless box.
Local dimming ensures much higher contrast because the LEDs are placed in zones and controlled locally, like on the Philips 9803 LED Lux LCD-TV that we recently reviewed.
B8500 will not be as slim as the B6000, B7000 and B8000 LED-TV (LCD-TV with LED) series from Samsung because local dimming requires the LEDs to be placed behind the panel instead of around the edges (with Edge LED).
It will still feature the black Touch of Colour design, as well as [email protected] with DLNA, Internet-connection, Content Library and USB. You can use your wireless home network as well if you acquire the wireless USB dongles from Samsung.
The TV also features the 200 Hz technology incorporated in the B8000 series.
The B8500 series has not been confirmed by Samsung but insiders tell FlatpanelsHD that Samsung will announce and show it on IFA 2009 in Berlin.
This year's IFA 2009 opens the 4th of September.
B8500 will be available in the start of September and will launch in 46-inches and 55-inches with the respective model numbers UE-46B8500 and UE-55B8500 (in USA; UN-46B8500 and UN-55B8500).
No official words on prices yet.
