At IFA 2009 Samsung showed a very slim 6 mm LED TV but it pales into insignificance compared to Samsung’s new prototype. Samsung has exhibited a super-slim 3.9 mm thin LED-TV without compromising picture quality.
Samsung has presented the world's thinnest LCD-TV with LED, which beats Samsung's own record of 6 mm, JVCs record, and Sony’s ZX1 model.

The TV of just 3.9 mm is also about eight times thinner than the LED-TV models that Samsung currently have on the market. The impressive prototype TV is 40-inches wide and Samsung says it can easily be scaled up to larger sizes.
Samsung’s prototype is based on a LCD TV panel with LED Edge, where LEDs are placed along the edge of the flat panel. Samsung also mentions a 100/120 Hz refresh rate and a static contrast ratio of 5000:1.
