According to a report by Korea Times, Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) is considering building a new OLED factory. Samsung wants to equip their production facility in Tangjeong, South Korea, with a 5.5 generation OLED production line. That means that Samsung will be able to efficiently produce 30-inch OLED TV panels.
Larger OLED panels
Samsung is currently considering expanding their OLED capacity significantly. The planned investment in more OLED production capacity will cost Samsung the equivalent of 866 million Euros.
Samsung 40” OLED
With the new production line Samsung will be able to produce OLED substrates in 1320 x 1500 mm, which means that Samsung will be able to effectively produce 30-inch OLED screens (and larger).
Samsung says that at the moment they are considering the OLED capacity expansion and wants to analyze the OLED market and examine the sales potential to end-user manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony and Sharp and to what extend these manufacturers plan to launch OLED-TVs.
Samsung 0,05 mm OLED
Samsung is currently the world leader in the production of active matrix (AM) OLED panels. Currently, about 20,000 OLED panels leave Samsung's 4th generation OLED manufacturing line in the same factory in Tangjeong, each month.
Samsung expects to launch OLED-TVs in large format in 2012.
