Sony is now behind both Samsung and LG in the global TV competition. Therefore Sony has initiated a new project to implement Google Android in some of their TV and Blu-Ray ranges. The new Sony “Internet TVs” will have access to a wide range of internet features.

Sony plans to utilize Google’s Android and Intel processor chips in some of their coming TV ranges. This enables Sony to incorporate actual internet access as well as different Apps through the Android developer program. Two people familiar with the matter told this to Bloomberg.
Details are still being worked out but according to sources Google and Sony want to introduce the partnership on a Google conference in San Francisco on May 19 and May 20 2010.
According to the same people it will use an Intel Atom chip and a new version of Google’s Android called Dragonpoint.
Could the Sony LX900 be the first to feature the Android internet features?
Sony, Intel and Google are also in talk with Logitech to develop a keyboard designed to control the Internet on the Sony TVs. The experience will be called “Smart TV” and feature things like advanced television guides, personal content libraries and search.
Sony will be launching their new LX900 and HX900 ranges this summer. These TVs might include the new Android features.
Neither Sony, Google nor Intel have commented on the rumors but make sure to mark your calendar with the 19-20. May 2010 dates.
Sony third largest
Sony is now the third largest TV manufacturer, behind Samsung and LG according to DisplaySearch.
Both LG and Samsung have LCD and plasma TV manufacturing plants. Sony has a LCD partnership with both Samsung and Sharp but has no actual LCD manufacturing plants.
