Sony is one of the companies that believe in the OLED technology and on the technology fair SID 2010 in Washington Sony has revealed some of their new technologies.
One of the new technologies is a 4.1-inch rollable OLED panel that can be rolled around a pencil. The OLED panel is just 0.08 millimeters thick (80 um). A typical human hair is 100 um (micrometers) thick.
The panel is also very flexible. It has a 432x240 pixel resolution and 16.7 million colors and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The OLED panel builds on a so called OTFT-driven OLED display.
Sony expects to continue developing very thin and flexible OLED solutions for mobile solutions. The OLED panels offers very thin profiles and are very low-weight and durable. The flexible panel also gives manufacturers the possibility to experiment with form-factor and shapes.
