Sony has developed a prototype of a 360-degree 3D display that does not require 3D glasses. The prototype is being exhibited in a trade show in Los Angeles.

We probably have to wait a few years before we can buy 3DTVs that do not require 3D glasses but Sony is working on the technology now and taken it a step further. Sony has developed a 360-degree 3D screen that reproduces a person in a 360 angle. The prototype does not require 3D glasses.

The 3D screen is impressive, but it also has its limitations. It’s very small and at the moment and the maximum resolution is only 96x128 pixels. Colors are reproduced in 24 bits.

On the other hand the screen react on hand gestures. By using your hand you can rotate the 360-degree objects and study these from different angles.

Sony's 360-degree 3D prototype will be exhibited on SIGGRAPH 2010 in the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 25 to July 29.
