During the launch of Apple’s new iPad 2, Apple also announced a new HDMI adaptor that enables users to connect their iPad, iPod, or iPhone to a flat panel TV through HDMI. Apple calls it the Apple Digital AV Adapter.
iOS on your HDTV
With Apple’s second-generation iPad a new AV adaptor will also be released. Even though it’s an iPad 2 accessory it also supports the older iPad, iPod and iPhone devices and enables users to display the image on the smaller iOS device on a flat panel TV or a projector.
Apple’s Digital AV Adaptor
The adaptor is aimed for private users wanting to playback movies from their iOS device on a large TV or business presentations where people use the iPad for presentations. This has not been possible in the past with Apple’s devices.
The adaptor mirrors the image from the iOS device and has the 30-pin Apple connector in the one end and a HDMI / USB adaptor in the other end. A separate HDMI cable is also required.
Apple’s Digital AV Adaptor
Full HD (1080p) output is supported with iPad 2 but the movie playback is limited to 720p on the actual device. Other compatible iOS devices such as iPhone 4, iPod Touch and the first iPad support 720p output with the HDMI adaptor.
The Digital AV Adaptor has been priced at $39 dollars and will be available from 11 March 2011 in the US and later in the rest of the world.
