Samsung has released their new free Explore 3D VOD (video on demand) service in the UK. Explore 3D VOD enables users to stream 3D content to their Samsung Smart TVs over the internet.

We talked about this service back in January 2011 and the service is now hitting the UK after its launch in Korea back in March 2011. Buyers of Samsung’s Smart TVs, such as the D8000 or D7000 models, can now connect to a new App called Explore 3D VOD.

The app allows users to stream 3D content to their TV over the internet. At the moment 3D content is free but more content will be added in the future with Dreamworks being one of the partners. Samsung plans to deliver movies, music videos, children’s classics, documentaries and trailers in 3D.
Samsung hopes to extend their library of free titles to more than 70 by the end of 2011. No official words on availability outside UK and Korea at this point, but Samsung previously promised to introduce the service in EU and the US "shortly after the Korean launch in March 2011".
