Tablets are hot, but they lack the level of display innovation that has recently made it into screens for smaller mobile devices. But Toshiba has plans to push 3D into tablet PCs in the future.
Toshiba's 3D display for tablet
At the SID 2011 show – where all the new display technologies are showcased at the moment - Toshiba has exhibited a 8-inch LCD panel with glasses-free 3D for tablets.

The 3D effect is very dependent on viewing angles, and you can expect an experience similar to Nintendo’s 3DS portable gaming console. Therefore you need to sit right in front of the screen to experience the 3D depth effect. The resolution on the panel is 800x480 pixels.
The panel has been designed for tablets. Toshiba told Engadget.com that they can produce larger models but that it affects picture quality and 3D effect. Toshiba revealed no concrete buyers of the new panel but it seems that we might see the first tablets with 3D panels pretty soon.
