Tablets, such as the iPad, come with touch sensitive screens – but they just don’t feel like real paper. At SID 2011, Toshiba showcased an ePaper (electronic paper) drawing tablet concept.

By combining an ePaper screen with a light pen, Toshiba has created a digital drawing tablet that resembles real paper.

The ePaper technology is utilized in for example Amazon Kindle and other e-book readers and is well-suited for reading because of the matte look. Toshiba’s drawing tablet utilizes this effect and incorporates digital technology such as erasing functions and different drawing options.
Tech site Engadget.com has taken a closer look at the prototype in the video below. At the moment the biggest issue with the prototype is resolution.
Toshiba has no plans to release products with this technology at the moment.
