Toshiba shows off ultra-thin flexible 3” OLED

This is not exactly the first prototype of a flexible OLED panel but it is the first prototype from Toshiba, measuring just 0.1 mm in thickness. Along with Samsung, Sony and LG, Toshiba is a strong proponent of OLED technology.

OLED is only available in small size smartphone displays but it has a support from a range of major companies, including Toshiba.

At SID 2011 Toshiba exhibited a 3-inch OLED prototype that measures just 0.1 mm in thickness. The panel is printed on a plastic substrate, which means that it is also flexible. More impressively, it weighs just 1 gram.

Toshiba also says that their OLED prototype panel has a “long” lifetime, but without mentioning any numbers to back up that claim.

Toshiba plans to mass produce OLED panel in 2014 or 2015 – trailing behind Samsung and LG.

Also, see this video of a flexible OLED panel. This is not Toshiba's prototype.
