At SID 2011 Sony has unveiled a remarkable 13.3 inch ePaper prototype screen that is extremely flexible and as thin as real paper.

ePaper stands for electronic paper and resembles real paper with a matte looking surface and a very thin form factor.

Sony’s new 13.3” ePaper prototype is one of the most remarkable we have seen to date. It is almost as thin as real paper and measures just 120μm in thickness. A typical sheet of paper measures 100μm in thickness.

But text still look very crisp with the impressive 1600x1200 pixel resolution (150ppi). Sony’s ePaper is also extremely flexible - or rollable. Sony demonstrated the flexible features at SID in Los Angeles by constantly folding the screen.

Acording to participants at the demonstration the ePaper screen's features let out a cheer from the audience. The only downside to the panel at the moment is the fact that it only supports 16 color gradations in black/white.
