Both Samsung and LG recently started mass production of OLED panels at their new plants. And now taiwanese RiTdisplay has announced that they have started mass producing 3.5 inch OLED panels for smartphones.
RiTdisplay starts OLED production
RiTdisplay has been a proponent of OLED display technology for several years and even though they are a few years behind Samsung and LG they are now ready to start mass producing OLED panels for small handheld devices such as smartphones.

RiTdisplay’s first OLED panel is a 3.5-inch AMOLED (active matrix OLED) panel with 320x480 pixel resolution. The panel is targeting at high-end mobile phones.
RiTdisplay produce OLED displays using the a-Si (amorphous silicon) method – contrary to the p-Si (polycrystalline silicon) method that LG and Samsung are using. In short this means the conductive layer that supports TFTs (thin film transistors) is created on a substrate (typically glass) using a different – and cheaper - process. It enables RiTdisplay to produce cheaper OLED panels but on the other hand they cannot achieve as high brightness, resolution and response time as OLED panels produced via p-Si (often called LTPS).
RiTdisplay says that they have buyers for the 3.5-inch OLED panel. However, they refused to say who these buyers were.
There is high demand for OLED displays in the market but supply is still very limited.
