Haier is a Chinese electronics company that has exhibited some surprisingly innovative products in the last few years. At IFA 2011 they demonstrated a transparent 22-inch LCD-TV with a 1680x1050 pixel resolution.

Haier was originally a white goods maker but they have recently made the move into territories such as TVs.

Haier has demonstrated some innovative products in the last few years. They were one of the first second-tier TV manufacturers to sell both active and passive 3DTVs and at last year’s IFA show they exhibited world's first TV with wireless power.
At IFA 2011 Haier demonstrated their so-called "Transparent Organic TV." Even though Haier calls it organic, it is a LCD panel. Some sites seem to confuse it with an OLED panel but the pitch black pixel reproduction in the picture below confirms that it is indeed an LCD panel. This is not the first time we have seen transparent panels but we usually expect these kinds of innovations to come from frontrunners such as Samsung, LG, Sony etc.

The transparent LCD screen is 22 inches large and has a resolution of 1680x1050 pixels. The panel is extremely thin. The resolution and panel size suggest that we are actually seeing Samsung’s 22” panel – especially because Samsung promised to start mass production of this panel in Q3 2011.
Haier has no plans to introduce the transparent screen in Europe or the US but they hope to introduce it in China in mid-2012 under the name LET-22TC.
