Apple Siri hacked to control Plex media center

Ever since Apple introduced Siri, the personal voice assistant for iPhone 4S, it has become a sport to hack it and port the functionality to other devices – even non-Apple devices. A developer has now combined Siri with the Plex media center software, in order to control the TV through speech.

Plex is a media center solution for Mac, PC and select Smart TVs, and a practical way to access video, music and pictures. Siri, on the other hand, is Apple’s own personal voice-assistant for the iPhone 4S, that understands spoken sentences and the context.

A developer has now combined the two systems. By using Siri on his iPhone 4S he controls his Plex media center with requests such as; "Play the latest episode of Myth Busters".

The technical solution is based on a Proxy server that tricks Siri into believing that it performs legitimate commands. Apple’s Siri is connected to Apple’s servers that determine the best response to a request.

Interestingly, Siri is rumored to be one of the main features Apple's upcoming HDTV but this developer clearly could not wait. See the video below for a quick demonstration of the Siri / Plex hack.
