A report by Strategy Analytics predicts that the black $99 Apple TV box will take 32 % market share (in USA and Europe) by selling 4 million in a near-12 million market in 2011.

The Apple TV box is leading the market in 2011
A 32 % market share would put Apple ahead of all TV box competitors, including Roku, Boxee box, Google TV and Western Digital, even though Apple continue to label their TV box as a “hobby”. However, gaming consoles with connected TV functionality, such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, have not been included in the report, even though they offer TV and streaming functions.
The report also notes that 30 % of the Apple TV box owners have paid or rented a movie or TV show, compared to 20 % of users of other TV boxes.
Yesterday Apple expanded their iTunes movie offerings to Latin America. In September Apple expanded to a range of EU countries.
Apple is expected to introduce their first Smart TV in 2012 or 2013. Steve Jobs revealed that he was working on a TV in the biography by Walter Isaacson. Learn more about the coming Apple HDTV in the Apple section here.
